Yesterday I wasn't too gimpy, a v. good sign. But at PT we still took it easy as K checked the hips and feels it's just more inflammation and thinks I should start taking the anti-inflammatories again, even if it's just for a bit. Of course I forgot them today with all the insanity of last night and lack of sleep, but will take some extra Advil and try that for the day.
We limited most of the exercises yesterday. I still did leg raises (side and back) without weights and clam shells with a three pound weight. Also did bridges with the ball and stim (6lbs on right and 2lbs on left - started at 3 but it was hurting my knee too much), and resistance with K and then he stretched me. I am planning on going to the pool after work. I thought that might be causing the pain but A, the other PT, said that just 25 minutes and what I'm doing shouldn't really do that. But then again, I have such a unique body anything is possible. I will try to pay more attention tonight and afterwards to see what happens.
And possibly I will get the courage up to go see a dentist as my jaw is only getting worse.
from diagnosis through surgery for FAI, labral tear, psoas release, as well as fibromyalgia and EDS (ehlers danlos / hypermobility syndrome) - and not lets forget the bad hands/wrists! Additional information regarding dealing with a peri-rectal abscess which then turned into a fistula. Currently I'm trying to sort out my neck and upper back as I have been diagnosed with stenosis, and herniated and bulging discs in my cervical spine.

Thursday update
I started taking the anti-inflammatories on Tuesday am, and they seemed at first to help. As much as I hate them, I started to think perhaps they do have some benefits. By Wednesday though I was in a lot of pain again.
At PT last night I told them how much it hurt after my session on Monday, and they seemed perplexed. At the same time though they wanted me to do the pulley/rotations with the weights. This requires pulling a certain amount of weight with your arms as you are rotating your hips, and bending your knees. Even though I only did 2 sets of 20 with 10 lbs, I was suffering afterwards. That and the leg lifts with stim were the only weights I did. Manual manipulation and stretching for the rest of the session as well as stim when I was being iced on the very sore spot. They said it's definitely muscular, and that I have to really account for everything I do. Even just going on the subway is a lot. I'm a bit bummed as I was starting to feel human again, but after thinking about this, I believe this started when I went to London. That was really the first time since my surgery that I was doing normal, regular things without being over careful.
So my "homework" is to do icing, isometrics, stretching and to make sure I keep track of every little move I make so that I don't overdue it. It feels like a huge step back, but I guess it's the only thing to be done at the moment. A bit depressing to be honest as I was enjoying being "normal", but I will get back to that at some point hopefully sooner rather than later.
On a different note, I just made an appointment with my chiro. I was meant to go next week, but I woke up this am in such a state, all twisted especially with my neck/shoulder region that I figured I should definitely see if they can get me in. I don't think I've addressed it much, but I must say that the ART (active release therapy) and the myofascial release that they do at my chiro's has been a life saver. Every since I started going in the summer when my whole neck was locked up I have been doing much better. I truly believe it helped with my pre-surgery stress and my post-op recovery and I can't say enough positive things about my experience with it.

update to yesterdays post
I went to PT and was quite relieved with the outcome. After explaining the issues with my hips he examined me and said that it is all muscular. This was the best news possible, as it means I did not damage anything and we can help control it. He wants me to take some anti-inflammatory meds for a bit and ice a lot and try to limit weight-bearing activities for the time. Yesterday we did mostly stretching and then stim, the kind w/ the leg raises, and then he put the stim on the irritated area when I was icing. I hurt a lot more initially afterwards but feel slightly better today. I also just took about 600mg of Ibuprofen (left my script meds at home) so will see how that goes.
We also discussed my left hip and agreed that even though the injection wore off there is nothing to do about it for the time being. We cannot even contemplate surgery until my right hip is 100%+ better and would be able to handle supporting me for any length of time by itself.
So, that's where it is for now. Hopefully we will get the inflammation down quickly and I will be back on the path to strengthening in no time.

PT update
They worked me over pretty good last night. I was doing a 5 lb weight for the leg lifts with the stim - impressive since I wasn't able to do that before surgery. Also, S told me I can try walking everywhere with one crutch and see how that goes. He doesn't think I'm ready for no crutches, but I'll take what I can get. Lets hope I didn't just jinx myself!

Again with the lack of sleep
Yesterday I had another PT appointment. I was pretty knackered before I even got there. I sit mostly at work but was told to move around every 45 minutes, which I am sure has stretched out to longer. I just don't have the energy as the crutches are wiping me out and killing my hands. When I left for PT, the timing was bad as all the cabs were "off duty". I was ready to cry until finally a nice cabbie that was off duty stopped to ask where I was going and he was kind enough to give me a lift. The walk to PT from my office is about two long blocks and four short blocks, but there is NO WAY I could have made that on crutches. I am so tired from the crutches, I think you really expend a lot more energy with them than just walking normally.
Pain and torture was excruciating yesterday. I did the bike for 15 minutes, and then some internal rotation and kneeling on the table. When K, one of my PT's, came over, I told him that my psoas has been REALLY tight and driving me nuts. His response was that we have to keep it tight per the Dr. I said yes I know that but the Dr also said that he wants it to move smoothly, not just get stuck with extremely limited ROM. I understand it's a fine line, but I can't have this feeling forever because it will drive me nuts, but I also don't want the laxity to get to where it was before the surgery. I'm losing my mind. So K massaged the psoas and then all of the scars, and started stretching me A LOT more than has been done. It was uncomfortable but bearable, until all of a sudden I had a shooting pain down the outside of my hip. I don't know what triggered it but it lasted about 5-10 minutes as was horrible. After that and some manual resistance exercises with K I did the electrical stim for about 10 minutes and then iced. I am spending about 2 hours from start to finish there.
After I finally changed and got all of my things together, I went down to go home. I didn't even entertain the thought of a cab as it was rush hour so was beyond pleasantly surprised when I reached the corner and saw an available one. He was so nice he even got out to open the door for me. It was such a relief to not have to take the bus home. I was a zombie by the time I got back to my flat so ordered some (not very healthy) dinner but I didn't care. I spent the evening on the couch and then decided to take a muscle relaxer for my psoas. I must have been in more pain all over than I thought because that didn't even knock me out. My fibro is flaring up something awful with this crappy weather and my whole body is aching, which is why I didn't sleep. When the alarm went off this morning and could barely move. I can't say "when I woke up" because I had been up for ages. It took me an hour or so to just get up to get to the loo. Thankfully my friend T is staying with me this week and was able to help get me sorted and then we took a cab down to work.
So I am sitting here taking a break and have ice on both my hips, but wish I had more ice packs for my hands and shoulders. I wish I could have just stayed in bed today but will go home straight after to rest and will try my "magic pill" tonight so hopefully some sleep will be in order.
Next week I start PT twice a week, G-d give me strength!
