sore

Last night after having a lovely dinner at Gavroche (highly recommend this place, it was delicious!) and half a bottle of wine, I thought I was superwoman again. So we walked around and around until we found a bar we liked that wasn't too crowded. We stopped into a nice little pub and we were going to leave after using the facilities but then some guys started talking to us and next thing I know I've been standing for a couple of hours. I finally had the chutzpah to ask one of the guys for his bar stool. So now I am sore, but because I missed the pool on Thursday I feel the need to go. That and yesterday was the first time I ate three meals in ages and I feel like a beached whale! So, off I go. Fingers crossed that this is a good thing. My hamstrings are SO tight from earlier this week so will be stretching those as much as possible.

not so sure...

what is causing my right hip to hurt.

Wednesday I did shoot some pool, but to be fair only two games so it wasn't that intense. Yesterday I went to the chiropractor and I told the masseuse that my lower right back has been feeling tight. He did a lot of work down there and also a bit on my hips, and it was later that afternoon my right hip started to hurt. So it could be that, or it could be soreness from the pool on Tuesday. I ended up not going to the pool last night since I was sore, and iced instead.

I have a busy weekend ahead so will have to keep reminding myself to take it slowly. That's definitely a lesson I've learned most emphatically. I am still a bit sore today though. Also, thankfully (touch wood) my mum is ok so that has taken away some stress. :-)

Pool

I went to the pool again last night. It was so crowded, about three people per lane! Thankfully I just took up part of the wall for most of my time as I was doing my leg excercises. I worked both legs because the other day I only focused on the right and wanted to see how the left would do.

After about 10 minutes of those exercises I did about 10 minutes of walking up and down the lane. I'm sure the other people in my lane loved that - they kept swimming past me and almost into each other! The deeper water is the hardest to walk through and keep my balance, so I've been using my arms to sort of paddle through as well. I KNOW I am not meant to swim laps, but I just had to throw one in at the end for my sanity.

On the walk home my left hip was really not happy with me, but once I got home and iced it it seemed much better. The weather has been pretty icky as well, and between that and the stress I've been under, I am praying my fibro doesn't flare up. Today I am a bit sore on the right, but left seems 'normal' whatever 'normal' is on that side.

Am planning on going swimming tomorrow as well, but there is a photo exhibit I came across a few weeks ago that is opening that I might do instead. Will have to see. As for PT tonight, I'm cheating and not going. I originally had plans to shoot some pool after work, but will wait and see how things go with my mother in the hospital. Haven't done that in AGES, so we shall (possibly) see how my shoulder and hips hold up.

Week 20

Wow - it's been about five months since surgery. I wish I was further along, but for me this is the only way to go - slowly. When things get rushed, it all falls apart. Literally. And figuratively.

Last nights PT went well. My guy has a new assistant who seems okay. The only thing is I hate having to go through everything with a new person. I've been there for over a year so would rather work with my guy regularly. It gets boring repeating the long list of things I can and cannot do. I'm sure she'll catch on in no time though, I told her to read my chart, it would keep her busy for a while. :-)

I met my friend afterwards at this great little pub around the corner, the Pig-n-Whistle. It was not too crowded or loud so we were able to catch up, and the food there is quite good. I felt pretty good sitting for a while even though I had only iced for about five minutes, as it was so busy at PT I was running out of time till I had to meet my friend.

Today (touch wood) the hip feels ok, though I'm slightly achy from the weather. Am still planning on going to the pool after work though. My PT was very happy that it went well on Saturday and things this can really help to push up my strength a notch. He said to not do the kick board but rather walk, do leg lifts, back kicks and squats. That's all I remember for now. We'll see how it goes.

Weekend Update

Friday night went relatively well. I was okay with the boots for the most part of the day but in the evening ended up standing for a while which killed my feet. Thankfully the hips weren't too bad, and after a while we went to a lounge and just vegged on the couches which was a welcome respite for the legs.

Saturday I had to get motivated and felt well enough to try the pool. I ended up walking there against my better judgement because I had to stop off at the post office on the way. I spent about 20 minutes in the pool doing walking, some kicking with the kickboard (which seemed to irritated my knee bursitis) and some leg lifts. It felt great to be back in the water, and I had to restrain myself from doing too much, as I just wanted to start doing laps like my old self.

After the pool I walked home and was definitely sore, especially on the right side, so iced when I got home. That seemed to help a lot. I went down to Union Square to meet my friend at the B&N for a late lunch at a cute place nearby - it was a restaurant/wine bar - and pretty cool inside. Saturday night I went out to a party and wore boots again, but thankfully I ended up sitting most of the time so the hips were happy.

Yesterday I went out to the island to see my family, and especially my little nephew. I figure if I am suffering today at all it will be a combination from playing with him (he LOVES it when you swing him back and forth and chase after him) and the crappy weather we are having. My ankle did go out when I was running after him so that was not good, I know I'm not meant to do that, but how can you resist an adorable three year old?

I have PT again tonight, then dinner plans after, so a long day, but am planning on going swimming again tomorrow. Baby steps...
